I paid for the bigger miles hiked the day before with a slow start in the morning. I didn’t leave the Sucker Brook Shelter until 8:30 a.m.
Climbed a few smaller mountains with moderate terrain in the morning (Gillespie Peak, Cape Lookoff Mountain, and Mt. Horrid) but then the trail got easier. Still, it was a long day. I had heavy legs from the 17 miles hiked the day before so it was just a matter of grinding out the miles. It rained a little in the morning and again mid-afternoon but nothing that impeded the hike.
The David Logan Shelter was my destination and I finally arrived there at 4:30 p.m. There were about a dozen people at the campsite. Two retired ladies doing a section hike and a bunch of younger hikers, mostly female, doing the Long Trail northbound. The retirees brought wine (a red) and shared it with everyone. They were quite a pair!
